One of the more anticipated thrillers of 2016 was 'The Girl on the Train' (Taylor, 2016) released on October 7th. The film was advertised in cinemas, bus adverts and in general had a successful distribution campaign.
From a $45,000,000 budget The film was able to make over $70,000,000 just in America and £120,000,000 worldwide meaning they made a huge profit. The film was very mature targeting anybody 16+.
Another, more comedic thriller of 2016 is Now You See Me 2 (Chu, 2016) which had a lot of hype around after the success of the previous film. With the use of magic and fantasy the film does well to target teenagers along with young adults.
The film had a budget of $90,000,000 and worldwide made $335,000,000 also making a huge profit. Both films show that by targeting teenagers and young adults the viewership is likely to be high but these figures also show that the thriller can be very serious but also can have humor.
