Audience Research: Questionnaire (Michael Cranenburgh)

For my audience research i decided to conduct a online survey. The reason i conducted it online is that it was easier for people to complete the survey as they don have to physically do it. I asked questions about the thriller genre and what people think of it.

This showed us clearly the questions answered were taken  mostly by males. 

The age of of the people were mostly 17-18 which is good as from the population  the  younger generation demographic are the ones who go to the cinema the most. 

Surprisingly only 7 out of the 10 people liked thrillers. We thought all of them would as thriller films are so popular and they include a wide range of genres within the genre such as action.

Action was the most popular having more than 50% of votes which could be because of the heavy advertising of mainstream films such as Bond films. 

Suspense was the most popular which is quite surprising as action films mainly have a lot of violence like Skyfall is full of violence. 

The hype around film s really does affect how the audience react to a film and it makes people want to see it as everyone else is which creates  huge audience. 

From careful  anylisation of the survey, the trend was that majority of people who completed the survey were around the age of 17 or 18 and most male. Seven out of ten people watch thrillers and the majority of people who answered said that action was there main attraction towards the thriller genre. Suspense was the key element to a thriller from the research we had taken unlike red herrings which not one of the eleven people had selected.  Over 50 % of people stated that the hype around a thriller made them go and watch it and this is due to the big production companies having a huge budget for advertising. After looking over these results they will help us when planning our own two minute opening of a thriller film as we can use the results such as the popularity of scenes from Skyfall which contains action and how they mostly liked the idea of suspense in the thriller genre so we will take this into account when panning our own opening.
